How to measure what size you need
DIY Size Assessment You can also self assess by using a tape measure, and measure along the backline. When measuring a freshly shorn animal, the cover should fit loosely, and therefore it and will spring back 5cms from the measurements quoted below. This is due to the elastic. Measure along the backline and add 5 cms for a loose fit.
Hold the sheep between your legs to secure the sheep in place
Get the correct fitting sheep cover and pull the cover over its head through the large opening in the from of the cover pulling it all the way over the sheep neck
lean around and put your hand through one leg loop at a time grabbing the sheep leg and pulling the leg through the leg loop and then repeat this process on the other leg
Make sure the cover is pulled neatly over the sheep neck and we recommend using lamb castration band to tighten the covers so they are form fitting during the wool growing process, see below for more information on this.
Tightening cover with Castration Bands
When fitting your covers you will see the covers will fit loosely what you need to do is apply a lamb castration band to the back of the cover, the process for this is that when you band the covers as the wool grows the bands eventually fall of and the cover will fit perfectly, what this does is tightens up the loose part of the covers so they dont fall off or the sheep legs get caught if they move around on the sheep, below is the step by step process. (you can also do this anywhere on the sheepcovers to tighten up the covers where applicable)
Fitting loose sheepcovers
Grab a bunch of the sheep cover from the rear of the cover as pictured below and hold this in a bunch, like a pony tail.
While holding this bunch, have a pre loaded castration band with a band castration tool to then open the band and slide over the bunch up part of the cover, similar as to putting a band in a pony tail
Ensure you have this band as far back to put as much of the cover through the band before removing the tool
You can repeat this process in the middle of the cover to tighten up the cover is required, we dont recommend doing this on the neck seam in the event of the band getting caught and choking the sheep, its best to do at the rear of the cover and middle as required.
